Mel Waiters ‘True Love’ (Music Access Inc) 3/5

mel-waitersWith seven of his albums already on the shelves I’v noticed a slow decline in the man’s vocal talents. The early albums are full of top vocals but as the years have gone on he appears to be limiting his range, this album is a case in point, it’s not a bad album at all – very listenable, but I’v heard this man sing with passion and true grit, and he dosen’t seem to be doing that anymore. Another southern soul approach with no real instruments but the one thing Mel Waiters does get right is the music score, the track that immediately got my attention was a down tempo head nodder called “Not supposed to love you”, a real grower. Well worth a listen.
